Frank Brown Cloud is an educator, public scholar, and cultural worker who builds accessible knowledge and creates opportunities for people to work towards a brighter, more hopeful future.

Brown Cloud’s efforts leverage scientific expertise alongside extensive practice in writing and teaching/curriculum design in a diverse range of settings.
He serves on the faculty of Ivy Tech Community College, where he teaches biology; and Indiana University, where he teaches, conducts research, and co-designs learning opportunities for students of all ages. In the community, he teaches and coaches poetry at the county jail, taekwondo at the city-owned rec center, vegan cooking at the public library, and cross-country at the local high school. He is also the primary caregiver for his family’s two young children.
Brown Cloud’s research interests include human evolution, animal cognition & behavior, mythology & religion, families & caregiving, polyamory, economics, cultural & literary criticism, curriculum design, feminism, neurodivergence, and inclusion. His nonfiction, research, and fiction have been published in a variety of periodicals.
Brown Cloud holds a B.A. from Northwestern, where he studied chemistry, economics, and creative writing; and a Ph.D. from Stanford, where he studied physical chemistry and cellular biology. He lives in Bloomington, Indiana with his spouse (an award-winning science teacher!), their children, and several rescue animals.
